Potential of VIS/NIR spectroscopy to detect and predict bitter pit in ‘Golden Smoothee’ apples
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aim of study: A portable VIS/NIR spectrometer and chemometric techniques were combined to identify bitter pit (BP) in Golden apples.Area WorldwideMaterial methods: Three different classification algorithms – linear discriminant analysis (LDA), quadratic (QDA) support-vector machine (SVM) –were used two experiments. In experiment #1, measurements carried out at postharvest on apples previously classified according 3 classes (class 1: non-BP; class 2: slight symptoms; 3: severe symptoms). #2, healthy collected before harvest determinate the capacity for detecting BP prior appearance symptoms.Main results: experiement spectroscopy showed great potential pitted detection with visibly symptoms (accuracies 75–81%). The classifier LDA performed better than multivariate non-linear QDA SVM classifiers discriminating between apples. accuracy predict visible decreased 44–57%.Research highlights: identification through may be due chlorophyll degradation and/or changes intercellular water fruit tissue.

Low oxygen treatment prior to cold storage decreases the incidence of bitter pit in 'Golden Reinders' apples.
BACKGROUND The effect of subjecting 'Golden Reinders' apples to a low O(2) pre-treatment (LOT; 1-2% O(2)) was evaluated as a strategy to decrease the rate of bitter pit (BP) incidence after standard cold storage (ST). Immediately after harvest, apples were stored for 10 days at 20 degrees C under low O(2). Thereafter, apples were cold-stored (0-4 degrees C) for 4 months and changes were monitor...
متن کاملBitter Pit Control by Sprays and Vacuum Infiltration of Calcium in ‘Cox’s Orange Pippin’ Apples
The incidence of external and internal bitter pit in ‘Cox’s Orange Pippin’ apple (Malus domestics Borkh.) fruit sprayed with normal therapeutic sprays either with or without Ca salts at 2-week intervals during the growing season was determined after 6 weeks of storage over 7 consecutive years. Following harvest, fruit was either vacuum-infiltrated with CaCI2 or received no further treatment. Al...
متن کاملPotential of Near-Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) to Predict Nutrient Composition of Bromus tomentellus
Determination of forage quality of available species is one of the fundamentalfactors for the management of rangelands. Near-Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS)was used to analysis the Nitrogen (N), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Dry MatterDigestibility (DMD) and Metabolizable Energy (ME) content of three phenological stages(vegetative, flowering and seeding) of Bromus tomentellus samples in ...
متن کاملShort anaerobiosis period prior to cold storage alleviates bitter pit and superficial scald in Granny Smith apples.
BACKGROUND Californian Granny Smith apples are very susceptible to bitter pit (BP) and superficial scald symptoms that develop during cold storage. The main preventive means are diphenylamine dipping and/or gaseous application of the ethylene inhibitor 1-methylcylclopropene (1-MCP), which is effective against superficial scald but not against BP. This study investigated the efficacy of a non-ch...
